An afternoon spent looking at flowers, streams, greenery and the occasional dinosaur sculpture is bound to be one well-spent
Yesterday, I wandered the Zilker Botanical Gardens for a couple of hours to enjoy the flowers before they leave us for the ‘winter’ and practice my photography. I’m by no means a good photographer, but my camera’s decent for a point-and-shoot digital, and the scenery was too pretty to look too bad no matter who was shooting
I got hopelessly lost in Austin’s upscale, hilly, winding neighborhood/suburb of Westlake and ended up being about 40 minutes late to work and having barely enough gas to make it to a station (where I paid $1.94 a gallon!), but even that couldn’t dampen my wildlife-brightened mood too much
Here are a few more of my favorite photos. More can be found on my Flickr account, too.

Gorgeous photos!
great eye! your photos are beautiful, and a far cry from the barren landscape that is michigan in autumn.
Awww, thanks Lovely Aunt Kathy!
Thank you, too, Charity.
A polarizer will cut the reflections on the water.
Thanks, mr. or ms. arrrr.
Now, to find out what a polarizer is …
re: reflections. polarizer could help, but wouldn’t eliminate it… nor would it work with a point and shoot camera. don’t worry about this, it’s overly technical and unnecessary.
your best bet is to get at a lower angle to the water instead of pointing down at it from above. the glare is the reflection of the sky, a lower angle would’ve eliminated it in that picture (reflecting the nearby gray rock instead)
Very cool. Thank you!
Unfortunately in the koi’s case, it was at such an angle (and moving away, no less) that I couldn’t get much closer to it than I was, perched on a bridge.
